Mariners sweep Angels

Bye bye Angels, bye bye Flitspaal.

Just Cruising

CD Wisselaar UIT > The Aggrolites - The Aggrolites

Artiest : The Aggrolites

Album : The Aggrolites

FritZ mening:

Oordeel zelf...

2 - 2

Mariners vs Twins : 3 - 7

Torii Hunter was laughing, even cackling about how good Twins teammate Joe Mauer was Thursday. How great he's been this week. How great he will be. Mauer had three hits and reached base four times in Minnesota's 7-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners, finishing off an extraordinary road trip. One day after reaching base five times, Mauer doubled twice and singled. The Mariners had seen enough of him by the fourth inning -- they intentionally walked him. He finally flied out in the eighth. Mauer was 9-for-12 and reached base 13 times in 15 plate appearances during the three-game series. He drove in four runs, scored four times, had three walks and reached once on an error. In three days, he raised his batting average from .354 to .379, tops in the major leagues. Mauer left Hunter shaking his head.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Johan Santana throws to Seattle Mariners' Ichiro Suzuki in the third inning of a baseball game Thursday, June 8, 2006, in Seattle.

Twins ace Johan Santana surviving a rocky beginning to help Minnesota end its otherwise miserable road trip 3-7. The Twins improved to 10-24 on the road. They return home Friday, where they are 16-9. Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki, the major league leader with 96 hits and second to Mauer in average, had three more singles, finished the series 11-for-15 -- and was overshadowed. He finished the Mariners' 5-2 homestand 19-for-33 (.576). Suzuki is batting .362 overall. He was at .177 on April 17. Santana (6-4) allowed six baserunners in the first three innings, far off his two-hit, one-run gem over eight innings in Oakland on June 2. But he limited the Mariners to Raul Ibanez's RBI single in the first inning. Santana allowed five hits and walked one in five innings.

Mauer hit an RBI single off Joel Pineiro to give the Twins a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Seattle tied it in the bottom half but Juan Castro hit an RBI double in the second to give Minnesota the lead for good. The Twins then pounced on Pineiro's wildness in a three-run fourth. Pineiro walked Nick Punto on five pitches with the bases loaded to make it 3-1. Lew Ford then doubled in two runs. Pineiro (5-6) allowed nine hits and six earned runs in 5 1-3 innings. He struck out two and walked a season-high six.

Minnesota's only downer was reliever Matt Guerrier fracturing the base of his right thumb. Richie Sexson lined a pitch off Guerrier's hand after he relieved Santana. The Twins got the out, but Guerrier left the game with a trainer, replaced by Willie Eyre. Gardenhire said Guerrier, who had been pitching his way into more meaningful setup roles, will be out for an extended time. The Twins likely will place Guerrier on the disabled list Friday.

CD Wisselaar UIT > Phoenix - It's never been like this

Artiest : Phoenix

The French band Phoenix draws elements from an eclectic '80s upbringing to arrive at their rock-synth sound. Thomas Mars (vocals), Deck D'Arcy (bass), and Christian Mazzalai (guitars) were a garage band based out of Mars' house in the suburbs of Paris. Mazzalai's older brother Branco joined the band on guitar when his band Darlin' disbanded in 1995. The group got their touring start on the French bar circuit doing Hank Williams and Prince covers to drunk audiences. Two years later the band took on the name Phoenix and pressed 500 copies of a single on their own label, Ghettoblaster. The A-side was a punk rock song and the other a chugging Krautrocker, hinting at their eclectic tastes. Shortly after, they were signed to the Paris-based Source records. Phoenix became well aquainted with labelmates Air when they acted as their backing band on several U.K. TV appearances. The result of the electronic exposure was a single called "Heatwave," which was very similar to an old '70s disco tune. United, the group's debut album, appeared in 2000 on Astralwerks and was recorded over two months. The album featured guest appearances from friends and family, including Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk), Phillipe Zdar (Cassius), and D'Arcy's mother's choral society on the track "Funky Squaredance." Alphabetical followed in 2004.

Album : It's never been like that

After avoiding the sophomore slump with relative ease, Phoenix return with their third release stripped of the post-disco house sound that helped to define them, focusing more on the songwriting side of things than any sort of dancefloor-focused groove. In fact, it takes until the fourth song, "Long Distance Call," for anything resembling a dancefloor beat to appear, and when it does it feels like an epilogue to the wonderful "If I Ever Feel Better" off the group's debut record. The band has definitely learned a thing or two through its evolution, placing more of an emphasis on guitar than before (Laurent Brancowitz and Christian Mazzalai sound as if they've been in the woodshed studying the chops of Johnny Marr and the twin-guitar attack of the Strokes' last few records), and their performances sound more confident than ever. Gone are the sluggish country-infused downtempo numbers, replaced with a more even-keeled track sequencing and tempo throughout -- almost as if they've been able to focus on the things that make the band so engaging to begin with, monopolize on them, and move forward in a refreshing and vibrant direction.

FritZ mening:

Mariners vs Twins : 10 - 9 (11 innings)

This was so sweet for Seattle, manager Mike Hargrove looked as if he might kiss Carl Everett. Hargrove traded back slaps and hugs and then placed his hand on Everett's cheek -- all after his slumping veteran lined a home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the surging Mariners a 10-9 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night. The 35-year-old designated hitter was 2-for-20 on Seattle's homestand and batting .245 before his winning hit. The switch-hitter is being platooned, sitting against left-handed starters.

Seattle Mariners' Carl Everett hits a walkoff home run on a pitch from Minnesota Twins' Jesse Crain during the 11th inning of a baseball game Wednesday, June 7, 2006, in Seattle. The Mariners won 10-9.

Everett pulled a 2-0 pitch from Jesse Crain (0-4) as if Crain had told him what was coming. He immediately flipped his bat to the ground, turned both shoulders to his dugout and skipped to first base to celebrate his second game-ending homer this season. The first was April 19 against Texas. Ichiro Suzuki had four hits, including a home run on the first pitch of the first inning, as the AL West doormats the last two seasons won for the sixth time in seven games. This, after a six-game losing streak had them a season-low nine games under .500 -- and had many Seattle fans looking forward to Seahawks training camp.

Minnesota, which got a career high-tying five RBIs from Mike Cuddyer, four hits from Lew Ford and two hits from major league batting leader Joe Mauer, lost for the seventh time in nine games. The Twins scored three more runs than they had scored in their previous five games combined -- and still lost. Their 10-game road trip won't end soon enough here Thursday. After Raul Ibanez had hit a three-run homer off Dennys Reyes to put Seattle ahead 9-4 in the sixth, Cuddyer erased that with a grand slam off Rafael Soriano to cap the Twins' five-run eighth. One pitch before, the crowd and Soriano thought he had a strikeout on an 0-2 pitch, but plate umpire Bruce Dreckman ruled it high.

Julio Mateo (3-0) pitched one inning for the win. Richie Sexson and Yuniesky Betancourt also homered, and Betancourt reached his career high with four hits. All that overcame Jamie Moyer's subpar, five-inning start, his shortest outing of the season. Moyer allowed 10 hits and three earned runs in his five innings, with two walks and one strikeout. Suzuki hit Boof Bonser's first pitch of the game into the right-field bleachers. Two outs later, Sexson homered to left for a 3-2 Seattle lead. Betancourt's two-run homer made it 5-2.

Bonser allowed five earned runs and seven hits in his five innings, with three walks and three strikeouts. Mauer reached base five times, twice on walks. He was on base in his first nine plate appearances this series, until Seattle closer J.J. Putz retired him to end the top of the 10th.
