Gematigd positief

Gematigd positief

3 punten in Groningen of 9 mln euro in Kopenhagen

Mariners vs Yankees : 2 - 9

Chien-Ming Wang has become a "happy surprise" in 16 months with the New York Yankees.

Wang allowed seven hits in seven innings for his 15th victory, and Robinson Cano drove in three runs in Yankees' 9-2 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night.

Wang has lost just once in nine starts since July 8 and tied Justin Verlander and Johan Santana for the second in the majors in wins -- one behind Roy Halladay.

Ichiro Suzuki #51 of the Seattle Mariners makes a leaping over-the-shoulder catch against the New York Yankees August 24, 2006 at Safeco Field in Seattle Washington. Nick Green was out on the play.

"No, I don't think we could have expected this," manager Joe Torre said. "You love those happy surprises."

Johnny Damon, Jorge Posada and Jason Giambi each added two RBIs to help the Yankees win for the sixth time in seven games -- all on the road. New York maintained its 6 1/2 -game lead over Boston in the AL East.

Wang (15-5) used more sinkers than in recent starts to quell any worries about him allowing 27 hits and eight walks in his previous 16 1-3 innings, spanning three outings. He credited mechanical improvements, such as keeping his pitching shoulder higher.

Not bad for a 26-year-old with 12 games of experience at Triple-A before joining the Yankees last season.

"We expected him to maybe go 13-10 and eat up innings," Damon said. "He's definitely stepped to the front."

Torre marveled at Wang's rapid rise to the top of the Yankees' pitching staff. He is 23-10 since making his major league debut on April 30, 2005, and has made the Yankees all but forget injured or failed starters Carl Pavano, Shawn Chacon and Sidney Ponson.

"To have this kid come in and do this for us for the last year and a half, that's certainly great for us," Torre said.

The Mariners lost for the 12th time in 13 games, looking much more like the team that finished an 0-11 road trip on Sunday than the one that "upset" the Yankees on Tuesday night.

Felix Hernandez (10-12) lost his third straight start by allowing nine hits and seven runs in 3 2-3 innings, his shortest outing of the season. Four walks gave New York 13 base runners and only 11 outs against Hernandez, who impressed the Yankees last August by allowing just four hits in eight innings of a 2-0 loss to Randy Johnson.

This time, the Yankees jumped on the 20-year-old's vaunted hard stuff.

"Every game I try to establish my fastball," Hernandez said. "It was just missing the zone by a little today."

Cano staked Wang to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-hop single that scored Bobby Abreu and Giambi. Hernandez threw 31 pitches in that first frame, after getting two quick outs.

"That's what we do, wear out starting pitchers so then they have to throw us strikes," Damon said.

The Yankees blew open the game with a five-run fourth. The second of three Nick Green singles loaded the bases. Damon then whacked Hernandez's high-and-outside, 97 mph fastball for a single that drove in Cano and Cabrera to make it 4-0. Jeter followed with a fielder's choice and Abreu walked to reload the bases.

Giambi, the designated hitter because of a sore hamstring, bounced a double over first base to score Damon and Jeter. Abreu scored on Posada's single.

Wang lost his shutout in the seventh. Third baseman Green -- starting for Alex Rodriguez, who was out with a throat infection -- threw Richie Sexson's infield single away for an error. Sexson eventually scored on Jose Lopez's infield single on which Cano's throw to first appeared beat Lopez.

Yuniesky Betancourt's bloop single drove in Lopez to make it 7-2.

Mariners vs Yankees : 6 - 5

The Seattle Mariners passed out white towels at Safeco Field. It seemed like the perfect giveaway to signify an ongoing surrender.

Adrian Beltre gave 42,454 fans an unlikely, alternative use for the towels. They used them to salute Beltre's two home runs, including a ninth-inning drive off Ron Villone that lifted the Mariners over the New York Yankees 6-5 Tuesday night and stopped Seattle's 11-game losing streak.

Moments after teammate Yuniesky Betancourt implored him to "go out there and end this thing," Beltre lined an opposite-field drive on a shoulder-high 1-2 pitch from Villone just over the right-field fence.

Second baseman Nick Green #17 of the New York Yankees tumbles over Adrian Beltre #29 of the Seattle Mariners while attempting to turn a double play on August 22, 2006 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington.

Villone (3-2) stared for a long time into his locker after the game. He finally said the pitch "wasn't where it was supposed to be. It didn't break."

Coming off a five-game sweep at Boston, New York had two on with two outs in the ninth, but Julio Mateo (9-4) struck out Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees' AL East lead remained a season-high 6 1/2 games over the second-place Red Sox.

New York first baseman Jason Giambi pulled up twice chasing a foul ball early in the game and then left in the sixth inning with a tight left hamstring. Giambi, who said the leg has been bothering him for a couple of weeks, expects to play Wednesday.

Rodriguez, booed and then mocked by his former Seattle fans for striking out in his first two at-bats, hit a two-run homer in the sixth that put New York ahead 5-3. The shot off rookie reliever Eric O'Flaherty soared to the top of a tunnel in the second deck of left-field bleachers, about six rows from the top of the ballpark.

But the Mariners rallied in the seventh against Jaret Wright. With the bases loaded and one out, Richie Sexson hit a slow, potential double-play, two-hopper to shortstop Derek Jeter. Beltre's slide toppled second baseman Nick Green as Ichiro Suzuki scored.

"That's a huge thing ... and he's done it for us a couple of times this year," Ibanez said of Beltre, whom Seattle fans have vilified for not producing since signing with the Mariners after the 2004 season.

After Beltre's gritty play, Villone entered to face Ibanez, who was batting .214 against lefties. Ibanez singled in the tying run.

Beltre's first home run gave Seattle a 2-0 lead in the first inning off Jeff Karstens, who made his major league debut. Beltre had his first multihomer game of the season and raised his home-run total to 15.

Karstens, the 10th Yankees starter this season, allowed one more hit and left with a lead after giving up three runs and six hits in 5 2-3 innings.

Karstens, demoted to Double-A Trenton from May to July after going 0-5 at Triple-A Columbus at the beginning of the season, is scheduled to start again on Sunday at the Los Angeles Angels.

Bobby Abreu hit his 200th career home run, his second since the Yankees acquired him from Philadelphia on July 30 and his second since June 13. The third-inning, three-run drive off starter Cha Seung Baek erased the 2-0 deficit, but Sexson tied it with a solo homer in the third.

Baek, called up from Triple-A Tacoma before the game, allowed three hits and three runs in five innings. He struck out six and walked three.

UnicumCup: Nederland sterk tegen Hongarije

Mariners @ Angels : 2 - 3

The Seattle Mariners have tried just about everything to end their losing skid. They even started Ichiro Suzuki in center field on Sunday.

Nothing has worked.

Chone Figgins singled home the winning run in the ninth inning and the Los Angeles Angels beat Seattle 3-2 Sunday to send the Mariners to their 11th straight loss.

Seattle Mariners catcher Rene Rivera, left, waits for the throw as Los Angeles Angels' Orlando Cabrera slides home in the sixth inning of a baseball game Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, in Anaheim, Calif.

"Miserable comes to mind. The others you can't print," manager Mike Hargrove said, trying to describe the skid. "It's a good time for a day off. Our guys have shown up every day to play, no matter the circumstances. Eventually, this thing will end."

Seattle's losing streak is its longest since September 1992, when the Mariners dropped a club-record 14 straight. All 11 losses have come on this road trip, the first winless trip of 11 or more games in the franchise's 30-year history.

"I don't know if there's a word to describe it," said Seattle closer J.J. Putz, who surrendered Figgins' hit. "There's been games where we haven't played very well, and games where we've played really well and just didn't get the `W.'

The Mariners have lost 20 straight games against AL West opponents, extending their major league record for consecutive losses within a team's own division and tying the mark for consecutive losses against any division. The Montreal Expos lost 20 straight against the NL West in 1969, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

"They've obviously hit a rough spot in the last couple of weeks," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "But you learn something very quickly in this game -- nobody is going to feel sorry for you. It's just the nature of baseball."

Putz (2-1) came in with two out in the eighth after reliever Rafael Soriano gave up a walk to Orlando Cabrera and a single to Vladimir Guerrero. Garret Anderson, the Angels' career RBI leader, greeted Putz with an opposite-field single to left that brought home Cabrera to tie it at 2.

Reggie Willits led off the ninth with a single against Putz, advanced on Jose Molina's sacrifice bunt and came home when Figgins singled to left on the next pitch. The loss was Putz's first since Aug. 12, 2005, when the Angels beat him in Anaheim.

"I was surprised that it found a hole," Figgins said. "The ball I hit before that, I lined out to shortstop. I was thinking, if (Yuniesky) Betancourt catches this one, I'm going to go chasing him on the field."

Brendan Donnelly (3-0) pitched 1 2-3 scoreless innings of relief for the win, allowing an infield hit.

Angels starter Ervin Santana, who surrendered three home runs Tuesday in a no-decision at Texas, served up Richie Sexson's 26th drive of the season in the fourth inning after a single by Raul Ibanez. The Angels got a run closer in the sixth on consecutive doubles by Cabrera and Guerrero with none out.

Santana gave up two runs, four hits and five walks over seven innings while striking out six.

Left-hander Jake Woods, making his first major league start against his former team, threw 74 pitches over 5 2-3 innings and allowed a run and five hits. He struck out two, walked one and stranded runners at third base in the third and fourth innings.

The left-hander was inserted into the rotation after the struggling Joel Pineiro was demoted to the bullpen on Wednesday. Pineiro did not pitch in the four-game series against the Angels.

Suzuki, the Mariners' five-time Gold Glove right fielder, started in center for the fourth time in his career and first time since Aug. 17, 2002, at Detroit.

"Although we lost, playing center field today was something that was enjoyable in a different way than usual," Suzuki said through a translator. "When you play center field, you're able to see everything."

Seattle's Adrian Beltre was 0-for-4, ending his hitting streak at 15 games.

onder contracht sinds 30 juli 1996;

  • W-L : 145-87;
  • ERA 3.97;
  • 324 wedstrijden, waarvan 323 starts;
  • all time leider voor de Mariners in overwinningen, starts en innings pitched.

Mariners @ Angels : 0 - 3

After joining Whitey Ford as the only AL rookies to win their first nine decisions as a starter, Jered Weaver was well aware of the significance of his company.

Weaver, a lanky 6-foot-7, 205-pounder with a deceptive delivery, held Seattle to three singles over seven innings in the Los Angeles Angels' 3-0 victory Friday night.

The 23-year-old Weaver, who lowered his ERA in 12 starts to 1.95, took his record-tying feat in stride.

Seattle Mariners' Ichiro Suzuki grounds out to second after coming into the baseball game during the eighth inning against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, in Anaheim, Calif. The Angels won 3-0.

"It's great to be mentioned in the same sentence with Whitey Ford," said Weaver, who added that he's familiar with the accomplishments of Ford, who set the record with the New York Yankees in 1950.

"I didn't expect anything like that," Weaver said. "It's great, but now I've got to start thinking about how to get that 10th win."

Keeping most of his pitches low and clipping the corners, Weaver struck out seven and issued just one walk to help deal the Mariners their ninth consecutive loss. It also was Seattle's 18th loss in a row to AL West opponents, a league record. Detroit lost 17 straight from 1996-97. Seattle's last win over a division rival was a 6-2 victory over the Angels on June 11.

Angels bench coach Ron Roenicke, sharing the managing duties with pitching coach Bud Black while manager Mike Scioscia serves a three-game suspension, continues to be impressed by the right-hander.

"I don't know if I've seen a young guy who throws up so many zeros. Even if he has an off night, they might get one or two runs," Roenicke said. "They just do not see the ball well against him."

Seattle manager Mike Hargrove agreed.

"The guy's awfully good. He hides the ball really well and there's a lot of deception," he said. "He commands his fastball real well and he's a tough prospect to hit, plain and simple.

"He's got a (1.95) ERA right now, and you don't get those by accident."

Adrian Beltre, who went 0-for-2 against Weaver and was hit by a pitch by the Angels' right-hander, said, "He kind of hides the ball a little bit and his delivery is a little funky. And he throws a lot of strikes. He throws it on the outside corner and it looks like a ball, so you take it and it's a strike."

Others to win at least their first nine decisions as starters were Livan Hernandez, nine for Florida before losing in 1997; Kirk Rueter, with 10 victories for Montreal in 1993-94; Ford with nine; and the New York Giants' Hooks Wiltse, who went 12-0 in 1904 before losing.

Vladimir Guerrero put the Angels in front with a broken-bat RBI single in the first inning and Mike Napoli added his 13th homer, a two-run shot in the fourth off Felix Hernandez (10-11).

Scot Shields and Francisco Rodriguez combined to finish the four-hitter for the Angels, with Rodriguez working the ninth for his 33rd save in 36 chances.

Weaver won his first seven starts, including a 7-1 victory over Hernandez and the Mariners on July 3, then had three consecutive no-decisions before he beat the Yankees on Sunday. Only Wiltse had a better record than Weaver through 12 major league starts.

Hernandez gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings, with six strikeouts and one walk.

Scioscia, serving the second game of a three-game suspension for his role in the Angels' brawl against the Rangers in Texas on Wednesday, watched on TV in the clubhouse as the Angels upped their record to 2-0 while he sits out.

"I've made it through two, and as long as we win, I'll be fine," said Scioscia, who will return to the dugout on Sunday.

The Angels again were without second baseman Adam Kennedy and reliever Kevin Gregg, suspended for four games for the bench-clearing brawl. Brendan Donnelly has appealed his four-game suspension, so he remained in the bullpen, and Roenicke will serve his one-game suspension when Scioscia returns.

Hargrove said before the game that he was giving Ichiro Suzuki the night off, which would have ended his streak of 360 consecutive games. But Hargrove changed his mind and used Suzuki to pinch hit in the eighth. He grounded out and remained in the game in right field.

"It made sense for him to hit there," Hargrove said. "Willie (Bloomquist) wasn't having a lot of success tonight."

Batting in Suzuki's leadoff spot, Bloomquist went 0-for-3, striking out three times against Weaver.

FritZ in complete verwarring.

Mariners @ Angels : 2 - 5

The Los Angeles Angels played without their manager and two players, and were still too much for the slumping Seattle Mariners.

Kelvim Escobar pitched seven strong innings, Vladimir Guerrero hit a three-run double and the short-handed Angels beat Seattle 5-2 Thursday night to hand the Mariners their eighth straight loss.

The Angels played without second baseman Adam Kennedy and reliever Kevin Gregg as each began a four-game suspension for their roles Wednesday night's bench-clearing brawl at Texas. Brendan Donnelly appealed his four-game suspension but didn't pitch.

Seattle Mariners' Kenji Johjima, of Japan, hits an RBI double off Los Angeles Angels pitcher Scot Shields in the ninth inning of a baseball game in Anaheim, Calif., on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006. The Angels won 5-2.

"If you saw us before the game, everybody was up and feeling good," said bench coach Ron Roenicke, who helped run the team with pitching coach Bud Black while manager Mike Scioscia started serving a three-game suspension. "You didn't see anybody walking around moping. It was a good atmosphere."

Escobar (9-10) won for the fourth time in five decisions after going 0-7 over his previous eight starts. The right-hander allowed a run and seven hits, struck out seven and walked one.

"One of the keys was trusting my stuff a little bit more. Sometimes, I tend to overthrow the ball," Escobar said.

Seattle's losing streak is its longest since a nine-game slide in July 2004. The Mariners are a season-worst 12 1/2 games out of first place, after being just three games out on July 26.

"You take the good with the bad," losing pitcher Jamie Moyer said. "I've been on the good side of this, but now we're on the down side and it's up to the people in this room to deal with it and get out of it. The season's not over. We've got 41 games left, and you play them all hard and with passion. Otherwise you shouldn't be here."

Moyer (6-12) was charged with three runs and seven hits over 6 2-3 innings in his third start of the season against Los Angeles. The 43-year-old left-hander fell to 18-16 against the Angels in his career.

"Your job as a pitcher is to go out and battle and try to make good pitches, repeat mechanics, repeat location, get ahead in the count, force contact, rely on your defense and rely on your offense," Moyer said. "A lot of good things have to happen -- and right now, they're not happening for us."

Seattle's Kenji Johjima hit an RBI double off Scot Shields in the ninth before Francisco Rodriguez got two outs for his 32nd save in 35 chances. Rodriguez threw a wild pitch that put runners on second and third, but came back to strike out pinch-hitter Chris Snelling and retire Ichiro Suzuki on a groundout.

The Angels built a 2-0 lead with sacrifice flies by Orlando Cabrera in the third inning and Howie Kendrick in the fourth. Kendrick's came after a triple by Garret Anderson.

The Mariners, who have given Moyer the worst run support in the league this season, finally broke through against Escobar in the seventh when Johjima led off with a double, took third on Yuniesky Betancourt's single to right and scored on a double-play grounder by Willie Bloomquist.

Chone Figgins chased Moyer in the bottom half with his third hit of the game, a two-out double. Rookie Mark Lowe hit Maicer Izturis with a pitch and walked Cabrera, loading the bases for Guerrero, who lined an 0-1 slider to right-center to clear the bases and give the Angels a 5-1 lead.

Lowe, who didn't retire any of the four batters he faced, had not allowed a run in 17 2-3 innings over his previous 13 appearances since his promotion from Double-A San Antonio on July 7 -- a franchise record for shutout innings from the start of a career.

"Every time I go out there, I have confidence in myself to do a good job," Lowe said. "Tonight the results were just a little bit different, and I didn't do my job. The streak was fun and enjoyable, and now it's time to start a new one."

Mariners @ Athletics : 0 - 4

Maybe Oakland's surprising streak against Seattle means little. The way the surging Athletics are playing, it could as easily be Tampa Bay, Texas or Toronto on the losing end of things.

The A's tied a major league mark with their 15th straight win over Seattle, getting six shutout innings from Dan Haren in a 4-0 victory over the Mariners on Wednesday night.

"I don't care who we're playing," second baseman Mark Ellis said. "We're taking advantage of our opportunities."

Seattle Mariners shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt (3) catches a fly ball, hit by Oakland Athletics' Mark Ellis, in front of left fielder Raul Ibanez in the eighth inning of a baseball game in Oakland, Calif., Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006. The Athletics won 4-0.

Ellis homered for the second time in three games with a three-run shot as the A's matched the 1974 Atlanta Braves for the longest winning streak against a division opponent since divisional play started in 1969, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Braves won 15 straight versus the San Diego Padres that year.

Yet Oakland has had a longer winning streak against one opponent, getting 16 straight victories against the New York Yankees from Sept. 9, 1989, through May 1, 1991.

Haren (11-9) struck out eight and didn't walk a batter to win his fifth straight start for the first-place A's, who increased their AL West lead to a season-best 6 1/2 games over Los Angeles after the Angels lost 9-3 at Texas. It's Oakland's biggest advantage in the division since having a seven-game lead on Sept. 30, 1992.

Oakland, 12-2 in August, won its sixth straight game and 12th in 13 and sent Seattle to its season-worst seventh consecutive defeat and 16th in a row against the division.

The Mariners are 0-7 on their 11-game road trip that resumes Thursday with the opener of a four-game series in Anaheim.

"It's a learning process," manager Mike Hargrove said. "We're getting valuable lessons. The bad part of it is we're getting our butts kicked while it's going on. We'll come out of this."

Nick Swisher, who delivered the key hits in the first two games of the series for Oakland, drew walks in his first three plate appearances and scored the first two times -- including on a balk in the fourth.

Ellis, Oakland's former leadoff hitter now batting in the No. 9 spot, connected off Gil Meche (9-8) with a drive into the left-field seats with two outs in the second for his eighth homer of the year.

Justin Duchscherer, Joe Kennedy and Huston Street completed the 10-hit shutout for the A's, who have a 10-game winning streak against Seattle in the Coliseum.

The Mariners loaded the bases against Haren with one out in the fourth but he struck out Willie Bloomquist swinging and also got Ichiro Suzuki swinging on an 87 mph splitter. The right-hander, 5-1 in seven career starts against Seattle, recorded seven straight outs beginning with Bloomquist.

"My stuff was as good as it's been all year," said Haren, helped by a sensational catch from center fielder Mark Kotsay against the wall on Suzuki's hard-hit ball in the first. "I think in order to win so many games against one team you have to catch a few breaks."

Meche, who has allowed 29 runs over his last five outings, lost his third straight start and matched his career high by dropping a fourth consecutive decision. He is winless in six starts since a victory July 14 at Toronto.

He pitched the Mariners' lone win over the A's on April 6 at Safeco Field, but was tagged for four runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings Wednesday.

Kotsay extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a seventh-inning double, while Adrian Beltre got a hit in his 12th straight game when he singled to left in the first for Seattle.

Polonieuws

Mariners @ Athletics : 2 - 11

Nick Swisher gobbled down his postgame lobster meal, then devoured a peppery piece of beef for dessert at his locker before hitting the showers.

"I'm on all-you-can-eat diet," Swisher said. "Everything you see, you eat."

After being slowed by a viral infection and batting .188 last month, Swisher is getting stronger each day -- having gained back about five pounds -- and his swing is as good as ever.

He had a three-run double among his three hits and drove in four runs a night after hitting a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth, and the Oakland Athletics extended their winning streak against Seattle to 14 games with an 11-2 victory over the Mariners on Tuesday night.

Seattle Mariners' Rafael Soriano, left, walks in the infield after giving up a two-run home run to Oakland Athletics' Nick Swisher which scored Eric Chavez, rear, in the eighth inning of a baseball game in Oakland, Calif., Monday, Aug. 14, 2006. The Athletics won 5-4.

If the A's can complete a sweep Wednesday night, they would match the longest winning streak against a division opponent since divisional play started in 1969, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. The Braves won 15 straight vs. the Padres in 1974.

"I don't think anyone can really figure it out," winning pitcher Kirk Saarloos said. "A lot of it is luck and a lot of it is we're playing good baseball against one team."

Marco Scutaro hit a two-run double, an RBI single and drew a bases-loaded walk for a career-high four RBIs as the A's productive offense helped Saarloos win for the first time in more than two months.

Eric Chavez had an RBI double and Jason Kendall and Frank Thomas each singled in a run in Oakland's fifth straight win. The first-place A's remained 5 1/2 games ahead of the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West.

Scutaro is making it hard on the A's to move him back to the bench when shortstop Bobby Crosby returns from the disabled list, perhaps as soon as Wednesday.

A fabulous fill-in during his three seasons in Oakland, Scutaro hit a sharp double down the left-field line in the second after Jay Payton singled and Swisher doubled. One out later, Kendall singled in another run to give Saarloos a nice lead.

Yuniesky Betancourt homered in the fifth for the Mariners, who matched their longest losing streak of the year at six games and are winless so far on their 11-game trip. They have lost 14 straight meetings against Oakland since beating the A's in the teams' first game this season 6-2 on April 6 at Safeco Field -- their longest skid ever to a division opponent. If Seattle loses the series finale Wednesday night, it would match the club's longest streak against any team in franchise history.

The club record for consecutive losses against a single opponent is 15 to the Boston Red Sox during the 1977-78 seasons. Seattle has dropped 15 in a row against the division.

Oakland loaded the bases against Joel Pineiro (7-11) with one out in the first but came up empty-handed. Mark Kotsay and Milton Bradley hit back-to-back singles and advanced on a wild pitch before Thomas drew a walk. Chavez then grounded into an inning-ending double play to end the threat.

Pineiro, winless in last four starts and has lost his last three outings, didn't get out of the fourth after allowing five straight baserunners with two outs -- consecutive walks to Kotsay and Bradley followed by run-scoring hits from Thomas and Chavez before another walk to Jay Payton.

Jake Woods relieved and immediately gave up Swisher's bases-clearing double to left.

"Every ground ball found a hole and then I got wild," Pineiro said. "Nothing clicked. I've been trying everything. It's definitely not my year. I got frustrated in the first inning with two runners on and one. I got the double play and I figured, let's go. Then it's back to the same old thing the next inning. It falls down again. Every start has been frustrating."

Saarloos (5-6), pitching on six days' rest after making his last relief appearance Aug. 8 against Texas, worked ahead in the count and used his effective sinkerball to keep Seattle's batters off balance in his first victory since June 10 at Yankee Stadium.

A's manager Ken Macha hoped to get 75 to 80 pitches from Saarloos and he threw 82 over six strong innings -- around 65 sinkerballs. Saarloos, who made his 11th start after beginning the season in the bullpen, allowed eight hits and two runs, didn't walk a batter and struck out one.

"That's probably as sharp as my sinker has been all year," he said.

Seattle's Adrian Beltre extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a sixth-inning RBI single.

Kotsay, back in the starting lineup after nursing back spasms the past seven games, extended his hitting streak to 14 games with the first-inning single.

Fotoboek Grindelwald

Even over 10 uur stonden we wel binnen.

Back!

En daar ben ik weer.
