Het wintersportseizoen is weer begonnen..... Nederlanders kunnen zich weer niet gedragen in Tirol

Versterking in de breedte

Gisteren ondertekende de Mariners en 3B Sean Burroughs een zogenaamd minor league contract. Sean Burroughs kan een 1-jarig major league contract verdienen en de daarbij behorende dollars als hij wordt toegevoegd aan de 40 man selectie.

Dit is de typische versterking in de breedte voor komend seizoen op 3B mocht Adrian Beltre voor langere duur geblesseerd raken.

FritZ Mening : Het was een hele opgave om deze drie rauwe CD's door te komen, maar het is gelukt. Een paar jaar geleden gaf Tom al eens een concert in Amsterdam. In Carre volgens mij. Mensen deden bijna een moord om daarbij te mogen zijn. Er was zelfs een reportage over in het acht uur journaal. Tot dan toe kende ik Tom Waits helemaal niet. Zijn rauwe stem gaf mij ook niet gelijk de impulsen om zijn werk te gaan beluisteren en dus verdween Tom Waits ook weer uit mijn blikveld. Een paar weken geleden kwam er een driedubbele CD van hem uit. Met pijn en moeite alle tracks een kans gegeven. Ik weet nog steeds niet of het nu een lange klaagzang is van deze man. Deze muziek kan mij in ieder geval niet boeien.

FritZ Mening : Zoals in heel veel gevallen is het origineel beter. Nummers waarvan ik het origineel zo bewonder, komen op dit album helemaal niet tot hun recht. Zonde. Het kan veel beter. George Martin weet er alles van. Als producer van The Beatles en producer van wel de succesvolle Beatles cover CD 'In my life' weet hij dat dit product van zijn zoon niet echt een topper is.

FirtZ Mening: Op aanraden van 'Baba O'Riley' heb ik dit album aangeschaft om me eens meer te gaan verdiepen in het werk van Tom. Tom Petty zijn grootste hits ken ik wel, maar de minder grote hits die ook op dit album staan zijn ook meer dan de moeite waard. Fijne CD om het nieuwe jaar mee te beginnen.

Wladimir slaat goed

Ook in onze winter wordt er gehonkbald. Spelers die er na een lange zomer in de USa geen genoeg vna kunnen krijgen, kunnen terecht in Venezuela. Zo ook Wladimir Balentien, een van onze landgenoeten bij de Mariners.

Audi FIS Ski World Cup: Afdaling vrouwen Val d'Isere (2)

Lindsey Kildow made it two wins in as many days for the United States at Val d'Isere as she claimed victory in the second downhill of the week at the French resort.

Following Julia Mancuso's success, Kildow claimed her second victory of the season after producing a storming run on the O.K. course to win by over a second from her compatriot.

A stomach condition restricted to her third place on Tuesday but the 22-year-old from Colorado was suffering no ill effects as she posted a time of 1:38.06 for the sixth victory of her career and her second at Val d'Isere.

She was almost 3kmh quicker than anybody else going through the speed gun, following the difficult compression bend, and wearing bib number 30 was virtually assured of her victory as she crossed the finishing line.

Mancuso produced another attacking run to move into third in the downhill standings.

Anja Paerson has yet to win a World Cup race this season and had to settle for the third after the Swede makes a massive mistake coming out of the compression and almost landed in the safety netting.

She was two tenths slower than Mancuso with Goetschl fourth ahead of local girl Ingrid Jacquemod who was fifth for the second day in succession.

Goetschl leapfrogged compatriot Nicole Hosp at the top of the World Cup overall standings with her performance.

Audi FIS Ski World Cup: Super G mannen Hinterstoder

Bode Miller moved to the top of the World Cup standings with a resounding victory in the Super-G at Hinterstoder.

The American former overall World Cup champion recorded his third triumph of the season as he posted a time of 1:09.76 on the Wertung course.

It was a typically attacking run from Miller who beat Italian Peter Fill into second position by 0.79 seconds.

Miller followed up his downhill victory in Beaver Creek on December 1 and his super-G triumph last Friday in Val Gardena and now leads Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal - who was down in 11th - by 19 points.

Hermann Maier was the home fans' last hope, wearing bib number 30, and he took third for the beleagured Austrian men's team - just their seventh podium finish in 13 men's races this season.

Following defending World Cup champion Benjamin Raich's slalom win on the season's opening weekend, the Austrians have now gone 12 races without a win -- their worst performance in 14 years.

John Kucera was first and third in the opening two races but missed on the top 20 to relinquish his lead in the discipline to Miller who is the only man to have won more than one event this season.

Marsepein

Echte decembercadeaus als foie gras of marsepein komen op de luchthaven van Brussel dezer dagen niet meer door de controle. Ze worden beschouwd als kneedbare pasta en vallen daarmee, net als vloeistoffen, onder de strengere regels voor handbagage in vliegtuigen. Dat meldt de Waalse krant La Dernière Heure woensdag. Ook potten met honing, chocopasta, jam en mayonaise komen vaak voor op de lijst van in beslag genomen producten. De goederen worden in de dagen voor kerst niet vernietigd, maar geschonken aan liefdadigheidsorganisaties.

Audi FIS Ski World Cup: Afdaling vrouwen Val d'Isere

Olympic giant slalom champion Julia Mancuso claimed her first-career World Cup win on Tuesday, blazing to victory at Val d'Isere's downhill. Austria's Renate Goetschl and Mancuso's American compatriot Lindsey Kildow rounded out the podium on the shortened men's O.K. course.

Mancuso upset the hopes of home favourite Ingrid Jacquemod, who ultimately finished fifth, when she bumped the Frenchwoman out of the leader's circle with a brilliant run of one minute and 38.93 seconds.

Goetschl, who has won both super-G races this season, finished at 0.43 seconds off of the winning pace.

A victor on Val d'Isere's downhill last year, Kildow skied to the third fastest time at a further 0.11 seconds back to show signs that she has recovered from a stomach bug, which threatened her preparations for the race.

Swede Anja Paerson, who paced Monday's training session, finished just off of the podium at 0.11 seconds behind Kildow.

The 22-year-old Mancuso added the maiden World Cup win to her surprise giant slalom victory at the Turin Olympics in February.

She had previously finished on three World Cup podiums, claiming second place finishes at Cortina d'Ampezzo's downhill and super-G last season and a third place finish at Ofterschwang's giant slalom in April.

The race was interrupted shortly after Mancuso put down her storming run, when Nadia Fanchini crashed back-side first into the safety netting after flipping 180 degrees in the air on the Tunnel Jump.

The 20-year-old Italian was transported off of the piste on a stretcher suffering from a wrist fracture and pains in her knee and head.

"Nadia broke her wrist in two places and briefly lost consciousness," the Italian ski federation (FISI) said on their Web site, indicating that there were no problems with Fanchini's knees.

"She has been taken to Mouthiers hospital where she has had a scan which did not reveal any more problems."

The World Cup will continue with the second of Val d'Isere's two downhill races on Wednesday on the normal women's course in a race that replaces the contest originally scheduled for St. Moritz.

Mooi en functioneel

Vanochtend las ik in de (digitale versie van mijn) krant het onderstaande stukje over lichtoverlast.

De foto komt mij bekend voor. Dit gebouw staat vlak bij de bushalte die ik altijd gebruik om naar Utrecht te gaan als ik Inge op het kinderdagverblijf heb gebracht. Kijkend vanaf de bushalte naar dit gebouw denk ik altijd: dat ziet er mooi uit overdag. Architectuur is best mooi.

Maar dan lees ik dus vanochtend het stuk in de krant over lichtvervuiling en zie de foto die erboven staat. Dat is wel schrikken. Het gebouw heb ik nog niet in het donker gezien. De foto en het stukje maakt duidelijk dat architectuur wel mooi kan zijn, maar lang niet altijd functioneel.

Wanneer is iets mooi en functioneel? Het is een lastige combinatie voor mijn gevoel.

Inge en Emma

Emma heeft een ziek broertje. Daan ligt namelijk met het RS virus in het ziekenhuis. FritZ ‘Der Chef’ en Louise hebben wisseldienst in het ziekenhuis, met het bijkomende slaaptekort. Om ze iets aan rust te gunnen afgelopen weekend, is Emma zaterdag gezellig bij Inge komen spelen.

’s Middags zijn we met zijn viertjes lekker gaan zwemmen. De twee meiden kunnen zich in het water prima vermaken. Samen spelen, alleen spelen. Bal, gieter en bootje, Meer hebben ze niet nodig. Voldaan stapten we na twee uur water weer in de auto terug naar huis.

Thuis hebben ze nog lief winkeltje en kassa gespeeld. Kleuren, samen een boek lezen, de meiden hebben elkaar gevonden als speelmaatjes. Inge blij, Emma blij. En FritZ verheugd zich nu al op de wintersport waar Inge en Emma iedere dag samen kunnen spelen.
